Unmasking Online Predators & Identity Theft in the Digital Age
Eleanor Duggan
International School Librarian & Author of The Phantom Account
In today’s digital world, young people are more vulnerable than ever to online identity theft and grooming. As librarians, we play a vital role in educating and protecting our patrons—especially students—by promoting digital literacy, online safety, and critical thinking skills. This session will explore the dark realities of online predators and identity theft, drawing from my personal experience, which led to the writing of my book, The Phantom Account. This YA thriller/ novella is inspired by the true story of how my daughter’s identity was stolen and misused online—by none other than my ex-husband. Writing this book was both a self-healing process and an effort to document this experience as evidence for my daughter’s future self-defense. More importantly, it serves as a powerful tool to spark conversations with teens about online safety.
